Deborah Nixon

We get to peek into Deborah’s life and through her, re-live the stories of the very tumultuous partition era. At 21, her father was tasked with escorting villagers and trains – at night, riding on the top, with just a rifle. Her father was also an avid photographer and has documented local stories you will not find in history books.

Deborah herself holds a PhD and is a lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney. This one small family, holds so many stories, artefacts, photographs that tell of the horrors, and the joyous, and triumphant moments.

Deborah is a captivating story teller and during the podcast, I liken her to a (better) Rose, taking us on a vivid history lesson woven with personal stories.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Hope you are inspired to dig a little deeper and learn more about this time in history.

About The Tea Shop Podcast

Imagine two friends, or two random Anglos, meeting up at the corner tea shop. They both order tea, and perhaps a bajji. They start talking, getting to know each other. That's what I try to capture. Natural conversation. Getting to know Anglos around the world.

Want to chat? Let me know. I'd love to.
