A Journey from Trichy to Teaching

Bryan opens up about his early life in Trichy, a place he fondly remembers as a haven for Anglo Indians in the late fifties and sixties. He recalls living on the campus of St. John's Vestry High School, where his mother taught. 
During the holidays, I had the whole campus as my kingdom. It was great.
This freedom sparked a joyful childhood filled with exploration and camaraderie. Bryan describes the Anglo Indian community in Trichy, noting its vibrant social life and the significant presence of Anglo Indians in the area, especially around the railway workshops.

Education and Influence

Bryan's passion for education led him to a long career as a lecturer in English. He spent nearly three decades at New College in Chennai, where he became head of the English department. His journey through education wasn’t just about teaching; it was about shaping minds and fostering a love for learning.
He reflects on the pivotal role his mother played in encouraging both him and his sister to pursue higher education, a rare opportunity for their family at the time.  
I think we are the first two from Adam in this family to go to college.

Writing and Reflection

In addition to his teaching career, Bryan is a published author with five books to his name. His PhD thesis has been transformed into a book, focusing on the identity of the Anglo Indian in recent English fiction. 
It's a heavily researched work, and you can tell obviously.
His writing is not just an extension of his academic pursuits; it’s a reflection of his experiences and a way to contribute to the narrative of the Anglo Indian community.
